Here Are the Best 2017 Pickup Trucks According to U.S. News Scores
Once purely work vehicles, pickup trucks are asked to do more than ever before. In addition to worksite workhorses, they play the role of family vehicle, grocery getter, and weekend warrior. All the while, performance capabilities among the top trucks have escalated almost annually.
If you are in the market for a truck, these factors can make picking the right one overwhelming. These trucks have fully modern safety features, the latest infotainment systems, and creature comforts that would make a luxury sedan blush.
We’ve stacked up the top ten trucks based on the latest U.S. News & World Report overall scores for 2017 models. Depending on how you plan on using them, some trucks will be better than others. Read on to learn which truck is right for you.
10) 2017 Nissan Frontier
$18,390 | U.S. News Score: 7.8/10It’s been more than a few years since the compact Frontier has been updated, and that age shows in the cabin styling. The infotainment system is dated and the rear seat is quite cramped. Additionally, the ride on pavement is pretty rough.Another place where the Frontier has shown its age is its powertrain. Engines have become more efficient since the last time the Frontier was refreshed; even its highway fuel economy of 23 mpg is bested by several full-size trucks.
9) 2017 Toyota Tacoma
$24,120 | U.S. News Score: 8.3/10
Like the Frontier, the Tacoma’s platform has become long in the tooth, but at least Toyota saw fit to update this compact truck in recent years. It can’t avoid certain common pickup issues, like a cramped back seat, but dashboard controls are easy to use and it has a newer infotainment system.
The Tacoma also has 3,500 pounds of towing capacity, which is more than some of its rivals. But the real strong suit of the Tacoma is its off-road ability – especially with the TRD and immensely capable TRD Pro trims.
8) 2017 Nissan Titan
$29,580 | U.S. News Score: 8.4/10
The Titan received a long-overdue redesign for 2017. The new Titan features a smooth ride, spacious seats, and an interior that can be optioned to be quite upscale. The Titan also has a very versatile bed that includes sliding tie downs, lighting, and power outlets.
The standard Titan offers less towing capacity than other full-size trucks. You’ll have to opt for the heavier-duty Titan XD and its diesel engine to get close, and towing will still be bested by the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500.
